Brunel and Oxford Brookes

Please note: the pmi2 project and its results were time bound and the advice and information may now be out of date. Please view these pages as archive only. For up to date information on dealing with international students please visit the UKCISA and UKBA websites.

Careers narratives from Brunel University and Oxford Brookes University alumni were collected and used to populate a web based repository of text, audio and video clip case studies. We contacted and interviewed alumni both in the UK and internationally through Skype and other multimedia technologies. It became evident whilst developing the resource that we had to create and populate it first in order to gain credibility with employers, which in turn would encourage them to participate. We envisage interviewing employers of graduates who provided case studies in the future.

The resultant series of case studies of international graduates vary in nature by country of origin, subject area, and career outcome. They illustrate the graduates’ career pathways and factors contributing to their application success and career development. Through a survey, detailed questionnaire and face to face interviews and we gathered rich data from the alumni about how they networked effectively, made connections, what resources they used, what worked for them and what didn’t. This can inform current students and assist them in their own job search. The tips provided by the international alumni will make current students and graduates aware of strategies that might work in different industries and different countries.

The final project report is available to read now.
